Both are trying to launch a new restaurant, but the people of Castle Rock want no part of a gay married couple, and the place is in trouble. One of the women is friendly the other, cold as ice. In the small town of Castle Rock, the setting of many of King’s most iconic stories, Scott is engaged in a low grade-but escalating-battle with the lesbians next door whose dog regularly drops his business on Scott’s lawn. He mostly just wants someone else to know, and he trusts Doctor Bob Ellis. Scott doesn’t want to be poked and prodded. He weighs the same in his clothes and out of them, no matter how heavy they are. ![]() ![]() ![]() There are a couple of other odd things, too. From legendary master storyteller Stephen King, a riveting story about “ an ordinary man in an extraordinary condition rising above hatred” ( The Washington Post) and bringing the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine together-a “joyful, uplifting” ( Entertainment Weekly) tale about finding common ground despite deep-rooted differences, “the sign of a master elevating his own legendary game yet again” ( USA TODAY).Īlthough Scott Carey doesn’t look any different, he’s been steadily losing weight. ![]()

![]() ![]() Drawing on exciting new sources, including letters, memoirs, ballads, plays, illustrations, and even cookbooks, Diane Purkiss creates a rich and nuanced portrait of this turbulent era. However, the price of peace included the execution of a king, brutal persecution of Catholics and Royalists, and years of tyranny. ![]() Like the Magna Carta and the American Revolution, the English Civil War resolved fundamental questions of sovereignty and political rights that are still the guiding principles of democracies today. In this compelling history of the violent struggle between the monarchy and Parliament that tore apart seventeenth-century England, a rising star among British historians sheds new light on the people who fought and died through those tumultuous years. ![]() 5/30/2023 0 Comments Home Work by Lloyd Kahn![]() ![]() For example, many of the homes in Home Work were inspired by Shelter. A running theme with them is that people have been inspired by one book to build their own home, and this will be included in a subsequent book. Each of these books has over 1,000 photos, and each 2-page spread is carefully laid out with respect to balance of graphics and clarity of information. The series, The Shelter Library Of Building Books, include Shelter, Shelter II (1978), Home Work (2004), Builders of the Pacific Coast (2008), Tiny Homes (2012), and Tiny Homes on the Move (2014). This is the seventh in a series of highly-graphic books on homemade building, all of which are interrelated. Some 75 builders share their knowledge of building and design, with artistic, practical, and/or economical homes in the United States, Canada, England, Scotland, France, Germany, Spain, New Zealand and Lithuania. ![]() About the Book From the publishers of a popular series of building books comes Small Homes, which is highly relevant for these times. ![]() 5/30/2023 0 Comments Welcome precious by nikki grimes![]() The book's visual and verbal poetry, however impressive, will be largely lost on the very young. Grimes's elevated language finds its visual counterpart in the intense, at times almost surreal colors of Collier's (Martin's Big Words) large-scale watercolor and collage pictures (the bronze highlights he uses for his characters' skin are positively luminous), while his photographic rendering style anchors the compositions in the real world. ![]() ![]() An African-American couple exults in their baby, celebrating all the sights, sounds and snuggles that ""Precious"" (whose gender is not specified) experiences over the course of a busy day. ![]() 5/30/2023 0 Comments Awakenings sacks![]() ![]() Called the “poet laureate of medicine” by The New York Times, Sacks is the author of thirteen books, including The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, Musicophilia, and Awakenings, which inspired an Oscar-nominated film and a play by Harold Pinter. Robert Thurman thinks the two outlooks can be reconciled. Who's to say that his childhood faith is not incompatible with his love of Buddhism? It certainly mirrors the author's own awareness, at the height of his immersion Japhy in "DB" warns that "Ray" will revert to his Catholicism on his drunken deathbed. It's a serious, intense series of reflections, not of the author himself, but as a transparent medium transmitting the Buddha and his core dharma 2,500 years later. He collates a somewhat stilted, often moving, distilled version filtered through Kerouac's own practice of Buddhist "Law," as he puts it, or truth-teaching. So many young people will identify with these four friends and have many of the same questions as they do. The voice is so strong, it was so easy to picture all four friends and to see them walking through the halls, whispering in corners and passing around the PAD. I absolutely love how Vikki writes about periods, reproductive systems and sexual health. Periods were taboo subjects and not much information came from parents and I went to Catholic school so definitely nothing was being shared there. Back in the early 90s things weren’t as open and talked about as they are becoming now. ![]() I NEEDED this story when I was in grade six.
